안녕하세요, 저는 안지은 글라라입니다. 처음 이 자리에 선만큼 오늘 무슨 얘기를 어떻게 할지 정말 많이 고민했는데, 제가 신자로서는 너무나도 부족하지만, 여러분 자리에 불과 몇년 전에 있던 사람으로서 제 경험에 비롯한 얘기를 하고싶습니다.  

 

저는 오늘 여러분께 꿈과 믿음에 대해서 말하고싶어요.  지금 여러분들은 다 꿈이 있겠죠? 아니라면 그 어떻한 꿈이든 항상 꿈을 가지세요. 꿈은 여러분들 삶에 의미와 긍정정인 에너지를 가져다 줍니다. 하지만 기억해야 될것은 그 꿈으로 가는길이 오로지 한길이 아니라는 거예요.  그러니 쉽게 포기하지마시고 절데로 자신의 능력을 의심하지도 마세요. 곧장 가다가 않되면,  조금 돌아서 갈 수도있잖아요.  만약 꿈을 못 이룬다 해도 그 꿈을위해  향하는 삶자체가  의미있고 빛이나는거예요. 

 

그리고 자기 길이 아니면,  또 다른 꿈을 가지면 되죠.  저는 불과 몇년 전에  지금과는 너무나도 다른 꿈을 가지고 있었어요.  제 나름데로는 첼로하면서 최선을 다했다고 생각했는데,  한계를 느꼈을때 정말  많은 고민을 하면서 제길을 바꾸었어요.  그런데 지금이 휠씬 더 많이 행복하고 희망적이예요. 많은 경우에 사람들은 자기 뜻데로 이루어 지지 않는다고 좌절하거나 포기하지만, 그건 그저 하느님이 저희에게 맞는 길로 저희가 깨우칠 때까지 인도해주시는거예요 . 앞으로 아무리 힘든 일이 있어도 항상 먼저 하느님의 뜻을 알려고 노력하고,  그 어떻한 고통도 이겨내면 그 고통의 의미는 반드시 있습니다.  여러분들이 힘든 시간들을 이겨내면서 배운 것이 있다면, 고통과 시련도 여러분들에게는 선물이 될 수 있습니다. 

 

살면서 무엇을 이루어내거나 아니면 고통을 이겨내는 것이,  때로는 여러분 혼자의 힘으로는 불가능해져서 저희에겐 하느님의 도움이 필요한 거예요.  오늘 독서에서 나온 말씀처럼,  작은 씨앗이 자라나는 기적은 사람의 노력 뿐만이 아니라 하느님의 은총이 필요합니다.  씨앗은 사람이 심을 수 있지만 그뒤에 기적은 사람의 힘으론 불가능해요.  이와같이 , 여러분들이 꾸준히 믿고 노력한다면 완성은 하느님이 해주십니다.  그 기적의 힘을 믿고 하느님을 따르면 보다 더 풍요롭고 낳은 삶을 가질 수 있습니다. 

 

솔직히 저도 여러분 나이였을 때 성당 오기 싫은 날도 정말 많았고, 엄마 혼자서 운전하시는게 왠지 불안해서 억지로 따라오고, 하느님의 존제를 의심했던 날도많았어요.  그런데  제가 이 자리에서 정말 자신있게 말할수 있는건, 제 경험상 신앙없이는 제가 이루고 싶었던 것을 절대로 못 이루었을거예요. 

 

지난 몇년동안 대학을 다니면서 대학원 입학시험을 준비했어요.  이 시험은 시간이 중요해서 실제시험 몇주 전부터 연습시험들을 보기시작했는데, 실제시험보기 딱 일주일 전부터 너무 긴장했는지, 속도도 느려지고 점수가 갑자기 너무 많이 떨어지는거예요.  그리고 그 뒤로는 당황하다보니까 시험 문제가 전혀 머리에  안들어오기 시작하더니,  결국 시험보기 겨우 몇일 전에 좌절하면서 정말 못나고 바보같이, 기도방에들어가서 돌아가신 아빠사진잡고 미안한데 도저히 더이상 못하겠다고 펑펑 울고 하루종일 아침까지 잠만 잤어요. 그것도 시험보기 이틀전에요. 지금 생각해보면 너무나도 어리석고 정말 아무일도 아니였는데, 그땐 정말  눈앞이 캄캄하더라고요. 

 

시험을 다시는 보기싫은 마음으로 잤는데 아침에 신비를 봤어요. 일어나니까 정말 눈이 따가울만큼 화창한 햇살에 제가 누워있던 곳에만 꽃잎들이 많이 놓여져있는거예요.  그때 생각하면 지금도 소름이 끼치고 아직까지도 모든게 생생해요.  그런데 제가 워낙 의심이 많아서 아침 내내  이 꽃입들이 도대체 어떻게 내 방에 들어와서 내가 누워있는 곳에만 있을까하고 궁금 했는데,  같이 사는 엄마도 전날 아무일도 없었다고하시고, 게다가 저는 또 의심도 많고 무서움도 잘타서 문을 잠그고  자거든요…근데 아무리 생각해봐도 제가 봤던건 논리적으로는 설명할수 없는 기적이었어요.  이런 신비를 보고도 시험을 포기할수는 없어서,  ‘그래, 그래도 몇년동안 준비해 온 일이니까, 망치더라도 마무리는 해야지 후회가 없을 것 같다’ 하면서 하루정도 마음을 가다듬고 기도하면서 시험을 보러갔어요.  근데 제가 정말 놀라웠던건 자신감만 다시 붙으니까 실제시험에는 또 평소 실력이 나오더라고요. 

 

그때 하느님은 모든 것이 다 제 마음에 달려있었다는걸 알려주신거예요. 그리고 항상 함께 하신다는걸 보여주신 것이라고 전 믿어요. 누구나 고비가 찾아오고 힘든 날도 많겠지만, 이 때 하느님의 대한 믿음이 여러분들을 지켜줄겁니다. 그러니 그 어떻한 일에도 절데 쉽게 포기하지 말고 마음의 힘을 키우세요.  여러분들이 포기하면 하느님이 아무리 도와주고싶으셔도 못 도와주시잖아요. 

 

마지막으로 제가 여러분에게 꼭 하고 싶은말은, 항상 자기자신을 최대한 사랑하고 믿고 자신을 가지세요.  안그러면 가장 아픈건 여러분을 곁에서 사랑하는 사람들과 하느님이예요. 그러니 그 누구의 사랑을 바라기 전에, 그 누구를 사랑하기 전에, 자기 자신부터 최대한 사랑하세요. 그런 사람이 더 많이 사랑받을 자격이 있고, 더 많이 사랑할 수 있습니다.  또 자기자신을 최대한 사랑하면 저절로 더 많이 웃게 됩니다.  많이 웃으면 행복이 찾아오고, 그 긍정의 힘이 쌓여서 기적도 이루어지는거예요.  능력을 타고난 사람을 이기는건 노력하는 자라고 하잖아요.  그런데 노력하는 자를 이기느건 정말 즐기면서 하는 사람이예요. 항상 감사하는 마음을 가지려하면 모든지 즐길수 있을거예요. 공부와 일도요. 

 

언제나 자기자신이 없는것만 생각하지말고 있는것들을 생각하고 감사기도를 많이 하세요. 그러면 정말 많이 행복해집니다. 행복은 항상 여러분 가까이 있습니다. 그저 보려고 하는 자에게만 보이는거죠. 이렇게 긍정적으로 살면 아무리 힘들고 어두운 날들이 있어도 분명히 좋은 일들은 또 찾아오게 되있어요.  하느님의 선물은 준비된 자에게만 의미가있습니다. 하느님이 아무리 좋은 것을 주려하셔도 여러분들이 준비가 안되어 있으면 그 기회를 놓치는거예요. 그러니 여러분들이 원하는게 있다면 끈임없이 노력하세요. 그럼, 분명히 하느님은 도와주실거예요. 인생은 정말 깁니다. 제가 여러분 나이때 정말 너무나도 크게 느껴진 사소한 것들이 솔직히 지금은 기억도 안나요. 물론, 저보다 나이가 많으신 분들은 저에게 똑같은 얘기를 하시죠 근데 진짜 인생을 긴가봐요. 그러니 힘들겠지만 지금 바로 코 앞에 있는 유혹에 빠지지 말고 좀더 넓게, 높이, 멀리 인생을 바라보고 미래를 위해서 꾸준히 노력하세요. 그런 자세로만 살면, 하느님은 분명히 큰 힘이 되주실거예요. 하느님에 대한 믿음은 여러분들이 지금 상상하는 그 몇천배, 몇만배 이상으로 평생 여러분들에게 힘이 됨을 항상 잊지 마세요. 언제나 마음의 힘을 키우려고 노력하시고 은총이 가득하시길 빕니다.

Hey guys, my name is Julie Clare Ahn. Standing here before you for the first time today, it took me forever to figure what I should talk about. Although I lack as a church member in so many ways…Because I was in your place just a few years ago, I wanted to briefly describe what my personal experiences were like.  

 

Today, I want to talk to you about having a dream, and on how having faith in God can really accelerate your way to it. I bet all of you have a dream or a goal. If not, make sure you always have one. It doesn’t matter what it is, just have one. Carrying a dream brings more meaning and positive energy into your life. But always remember that there’s not only one single way to get there. So never give up easily. And don’t ever doubt yourself. If you feel that you’re stuck, don’t panic, just go around it. Even if you never meet your goal, simply your journey there makes your life so much more fulfilling and encouraging. 

 

But let’s just say you feel that the dream you had really isn’t right for you. Then don’t be afraid to have another one. Just a couple years ago, I had a dream that was entirely different than the one I have now. I personally felt that I had tried my best in playing the cello, but once I realized my limits, I really struggled to let it go. But the truth is, I feel so much more hopeful and optimistic now. Often times, people breakdown or give up because things don’t go as they had planned. But this is just God’s way of showing and leading us to our right paths until we realize it. So no matter how difficult life is, always be patient in trying to realize God’s true intent for you. If you overcome these obstacles, you’ll be surprised to realize that each of them carry a hidden purpose that will help you in the long journey ahead of you.  Once you learn from them and develop a broader outlook on life, these obstacles can even become gifts setting you up for a more meaningful and promising future. 

 

When you strive to achieve or overcome things in life, you’ll often feel that you can’t do it alone and that is why we need God’s help. From today’s reading, a grain of a mustard seed growing into a large tree is a phenomenon that cannot be completed by a human being alone. Sure it’s possible for a human being to plant a seed, but the miracles that follow are the works of God. Likewise, once you maintain a consistent effort in whatever you’re trying to accomplish along with your faith, it is up to him to complete things. So fully believe in his purpose and power and you’ll certainly be able to have a richer and more fulfilled life. 

 

To be honest, there were so many times when I didn’t feel like coming to church and often felt like I was forced to come. And I repeatedly doubted God’s presence even at church. But what I can say today with utmost certainty is that without having my faith, I would have never been able to achieve the things that I have accomplished so far.  

 

During the past few years, I prepared for a graduate school admissions exam while attending college. Since time management is very important for this exam, I began to regularly take practice exams a couple weeks before the actual testing day. My scores were gradually getting better until exactly one week before, my nerves really started to set in and all of the sudden my practice scores continued to drop. Then just two days before the actual test, I had an emotional breakdown. I panicked, went into the prayer room and cried for hours in front of my deceased father’s picture saying that I was sorry, but I just couldn’t do it anymore, that I go crazy just by looking at the exam. Then I slept through the entire day until the next morning. Looking back, I know I was being so immature and it really wasn’t even a big deal…but then, it really felt like my life was over. 

 

Never wanting to even look at another exam again, I woke up in the morning and saw something that I could never forget. When I opened my eyes, I found numerous flower petals spread over only where I was laying down. Even now, I get chills whenever I think about it and every aspect of this moment still seems so real. But because I question everything all the time, I spent half the day trying to find a rational explanation for what I had seen. And because I get scared really easily, I even lock my doors when I sleep. But after thinking about it all morning and all afternoon, I realized that there was no realistic explanation and that I simply had to accept it as what it was, a miracle. My mom actually says now that she initially thought that I had finally gone crazy that morning…But after coming up to my room and seeing what I had seen, she teared up a bit. After all this, I just couldn’t give up. So I convinced myself that regardless of the result, I was only going to focus on finishing what I had started. After all, it was something that I had worked on for several years and I didn’t want to have any regrets. So I recollected myself for the rest of the day and went to take the actual exam. But to my surprise, just by having my confidence back, I was able to do my best. 

 

What God was trying to tell me through his miracle was that everything depended on how I thought of it and that he was with me all throughout. Everyone goes through hardships every now and then, but your belief in God will always protect you. So never ever give up on yourself. Even if he desperately wants to help you at a proper time, he can’t if you have already given up. 

 

The last thing I wanted to remind you guys is to fully love yourself. Don’t listen to what others say, unless it’s a good thing. If you put yourself down, then the ones that hurt the most are the ones that love you the most and God. So before you want anyone to love you, before you love someone, first learn to love yourself completely. Those who do that deserve to be loved more and have the ability to love more than the ones that don’t. Once you learn to do that, you’ll be able to smile more. And if you smile more often, you’ll find more happiness in life. And adding up positive energy enables you to achieve the impossibles. There’s an old saying that those who prevail over those who are gifted are the ones that work hard. Well, those who can prevail over those who work hard are the ones who really enjoy what they do. If you always try to have an appreciative attitude, then you can enjoy anything in life. Even studying. 

 

Stop thinking about the things that you don’t have, and start focusing on so many of the things that you do have.  That’s the key to happiness. Happiness is everywhere, it’s really just a matter of appreciation. With a positive outlook on life, you’ll be able to overcome anything in life and good days will come. God’s gifts carry meaning to only those who are ready. Even if he’s trying to give you a gift, if you’re not ready then you miss that opportunity. If you want something, then continuously work at it. Then, he’ll be there for you. Life is really long guys. The things that seemed to matter so much when I was your age…I can’t seem to even remember them now. Of course, the ones older than me would say the same. But life really is long. So I know it’s hard but avoid falling into near traps and temptations. And try to have a broader, wider outlook on life and continually work for your long future ahead of you. With this attitude, God will be of tremendous support. Your faith in God will help you throughout your life so many times beyond what you’re all imagining now. Always try to develop a stronger mindset and never underestimate your potentials. May your lives be filled with grace and may God be with you always. Amen.
